Diego is a professional jazz drummer, educator, and composer. He is originally from Venezuela and currently living in New York City. He attended  The Collective School of Music and The City College of New York where he earned, with honors, a Bachelor degree in Jazz Performance.

 

Diego has studied with great players such as Kim Plainfield, Peter Retzlaff, Adam Cruz, Mark Ferber, Kendrick Scott and pianist and arranger Mike Holober.

 

In Venezuela, Diego toured and recorded with some of the most renown Venezuelan jazz and pop artists such as Pablo Gil, Alfredo Naranjo, Leo Blanco, Laurent Lecuyer, Oscar Fanega, Virginia Ramirez, Nuevas Almas Ensemble, Movida Acustica Urbana (MAU), Luca Vicenzetti, Tumbador, among many others. Also, for four years, Diego was the head of the Jazz Percussion Department at "Taller De Jazz Caracas," the most prestigious jazz academy in the country.

 

Since he moved to New York City, he has become an active member of the exciting city’s jazz scene, both as a performer and educator. Diego has worked with artists such as Will Vinson, Doug Weiss, Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans, Mike Holober, Mimi Jones, Gilbert Castellanos,  Lukas Gabric, Livio Almeida, Josiah Boornazian, Antonio Mazzei, Brent Vaartstra, Coyote Anderson, Ian Buss just to name a few. Diego currently is a writer contributor for LearnJazzStandards.com. Also, He teaches at The Online Jazz School and the Bronx House for Performing Arts. 

 

Diego has established himself as a versatile and musical drummer with a promising future.
